That’s quite enough evaluation of advice from a Team Fortress 2 character. Most of the time, however, I miss a crucial long-distance shot and suddenly find myself being gunned down instead. Some of the time, I manage to gun down enough enemies to clear a path to my objective or escape route. If that fails, I often just resign myself to my fate, which usually consists of either fighting my way out of my current location or dying in the process. Since I’m a rather terrible shot in games that revolve around sniping, my main plan is basically, “introduce bullet to head from such a distance that the bullet can’t be traced back to my location.” I also don’t typically come up with plans to kill everyone I meet. Instead, I just count myself fortunate that I have much more sniper rifle ammunition than I need to accomplish my objectives. In my opinion, the enemies I find myself assassinating in Sniper Elite V2 deserve no politeness.Īs far as the other two standards are concerned, I frequently find myself without the skill necessary to achieve efficiency. The aforementioned “professional’s standards” are as follows: “be polite, be efficient, and have a plan to kill everyone you meet.” Of course, I adhere to precisely none of those standards. The worst involve tight corridors, or narrow paths through winding streets, where the uncanny vision of enemy soldiers allows them to discover you before you're ready. The best are large open courtyards where distant falling bombs mask the sound of your rifle fire, allowing you to move and shoot unseen and unheard.

Or at least, it does when it gives you room to manoeuvre. That doesn't diminish the pleasure of conceiving and executing a plan: put the effort in and SEV2 rewards you with the feeling of carefully thought-out mischief falling into place. The easiest option in any given situation is simply to camp behind cover and shoot anyone who comes into range, using the third-person perspective to check you aren't being flanked and the regenerating health to stay alive. Snipers, it seems, are the griefers of war. And if someone does spot you, just change position – a ghostly white image will show your last seen point – creating confusion and panic as the enemy fires impotently at nothing. Your target's screams of pain will attract more soldiers to run in front of your crosshair. 30 calibre chaos, it's possible to take someone down with a non-fatal incapacitating shot.
